Easter, Springtime and Birthday fun

Holy long time no post batman!  But, as always, better late then never :)  First off, mom gave me a coupon to get some portraits of the kids in their Easter clothes at Target.. and they did a GREAT job (especially for a free photo shoot!)
Here are my favorites :)

After the photo torture, mom and I took the kids to a local park to play and feed the ducks.  They were both happy to be in play clothes again and to be outside on such a lovely day!

Yes, she is trying to eat the swing... yummy.

It seems both my kids have an issue with keeping their tongues in!

Nathan's favorite- slides!!!

He was pretty nervous about the feeding the wildlife idea...

But Grammy showed him how it's done!

He got brave enough to sit with her and throw the bread as far as he could :)

Nathan has decided that he likes feeding the "little ones"- he prefers ducks over geese.

Since Easter and Cathy's birthday were only a day apart this year, and getting the family together is quite a feat these days, we combined the two on the Saturday before Easter.

Nathan was happy to open and share Grandma's new toy :)

Her favorite is German Chocolate cake, so I decided to get a little creative.  There is not much you can do to dress up the traditional frosting on these things, so I made a Heart-shaped cake, frosted the edges with chocolate and the top in the coconut and pecan frosting.  To boot we even put all 59 candles on!

AND, we lit them all!  This picture was taken with no flash in a dark room :)  Those candles did some justice to the lighting situation!

And, of course, Nathan had to help with the candle blowing effort.

We did an Easter pinata this year, and decided to hang it from one of the huge trees across the street.  How many brilliant boys does it take to hang a pinata?

Three to plan on the ground while Jamie climbs the tree with the rope!  She scaled all the way up there with the plan to raise and lower the pinata from above.

Nathan thought it was a good idea!

Dan, however, was less enthusiastic.  But, at least he agreed to catch her when it came time to come down :)

Good catch!

"See, I survived!" ..."So therefore you think this is justified?!?!"
Ah, young love....

Once she was safely on the ground her trusty belayer, Jason, decided it'd be cute to try and hoist her back into the tree...

She was not in agreement with this plan.

Meanwhile, Nathan is happy to boast the spoils of his pinata!

No pinata action for the little one this time.  You will have to wait for the next one.

In an effort to combine Easter and birthday, we invented a special egg hunt this year.  We blocked off our family room and filled with with 200 balloons, 50 of which contained plastic eggs.  Nathan loved this idea so much he could barely muster a smile for a picture because it meant standing still in the balloon pit for a moment.

Here's how we did it without passing out!  We used 2 compressors to inflate all those balloons, and a tire gauge to tie them.  Good work hubby!

Jamie was the first to arrive, so she got to help build the balloon pit :)

Grandma did what grandmas do best...love the kiddos!

Before we popped all the balloons, we let the kids play in them- which they both thoroughly enjoyed.

Grandma was in charge of the movie footage, which will be posted soon!

Dan had to make his own contribution to the decor...

The only rules for the "egg hunt" were, it's not over until every balloon has been popped, and then there will be 2 winners- whoever has the most plastic eggs and whoever finds the one golden egg.  Everyone was given a toothpick, and....GO!

Amazingly, little princess didn't even cry!

Somehow, Jason was able to convince Nathan to give him all his eggs, and....

Jason had the most! (Shocker?!)

Nathan didn't realize until post-facto that there was candy in them!

Mom, I can't open it!  You do it.

Hannah was content with her Pinwheel for a little while, but the real joy came from...

....trying to give Crazy Uncle Dan a nose job! :)

Last, but not least, I snapped off a few photos of the kids on Easter day after church in the outfits from Grandma "Bug"- here are some of the spoils of that effort :)

Although it may look like I am playing favorites here, the truth is, Hannah was MUCH more compliant in this effort than Nathan was.  I didn't push too hard since we had some great ones of him from Target, but who wants to sit for pictures when you have a chocolate bunny to eat, right?

Our Sunday was nice and calm for the afternoon, we had both parents join us for dinner and closed up by watching the Church's Easter film followed with a family testimony meeting.  All in all, it was a beautiful Easter full of gratitude for the blessings of the resurrection, the atonement and family.

More coming soon!
