Nathan's 5th Birthday

Nathan and his best friend both have December birthdays (the 3rd and the 11th) and both wanted to have an Incredible Pizza party (like Chuck E Cheese on steroids).  So, the mommies pow-wowed and decided to do a combined party (same friends, same party, one week apart = lame).

The boys loved the idea, and so did the moms! Very little to do on our part and awesome party for the boys and their friends!

Since we didn't have to worry about decorations or entertainment, or even food, I decided it would be fun to make the boys their own individual cakes. This way each boy could still feel he was getting his own "birthday". Nathan wanted a Batman cake and his friend decided on a football.

Here is what I ended up with:

I should have taken a picture before he put in his football candles, but oh well :)

And just because she is that crafty, his friend's mom made cupcakes to match the themes!
Aren't those amazing?!

 Smile birthday boy!

Crowded room, but the boys and their guests had a blast!

After dinner, cake and presents they each got to do the "birthday boy" perks: spin the Wheel of Fun
and have 1 minute in the ticket box.

Here's Nathan with his safety goggles, ready to earn some free tickets!

They get in this box and it starts blowing air and sending the play bills flying around. He had 30 seconds to grab as many as he could (preferably the ones with the biggest numbers on them!) and push them out a slot in this phone booth-looking contraption. Despite some difficulty with the glasses, he did REALLY well!
289 tickets!

After that we set the kiddos (with their parents) free in the game area where they all had a blast for the rest of the evening.

Another birthday perk- Nathan was able to use his "birthday boy" card to sneak onto the bumper cars with all his friends even though he was technically about and inch and a half too short to ride :)

He did a great job and had a terrific time crashing into all his buddies!

They did stomping, racing, shooting and more!

The party was the Saturday before his actual birthday, so on his official day we made his favorite treat: sugar cookies. He got to decorate and even light the candles on his birthday treats. He was pretty excited that dad let him use the matches!

Make a wish!

Hannah also got to enjoy her creation from that day :)

What? So I like a little cookie with my frosting and sprinkles :)

And Levi got to enjoy his pacifier... some day soon enough he will come to know the joys of baked goods, but not this time around.

All in all, it was a great birthday. I really can't believe Nathan is a big 5 year old already. He is such a great boy.

A little bit about Nathan at 5 years old:
-He loves the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (yes, they are back!) and GI Joes (the tiny ones from the dollar store)
-His favorite food is corn dogs and applesauce
-His favorite sport is football (and he sings the Cougar fight song several times every day!)
-Loves to sing, dance and tumble
-He loves to read and is currently reading his first chapter book series called "The Magic Tree House" and just finished reading the Book of Mormon all the way through for the first time.
-Is great a math; can add and subtract even very big numbers (if they are in columns)
-Loves to play imaginary games: shooting "bad guys", being a pediatrician to Hannah's babies, flying his die cast jets around the house
-Is a super great big brother to Hannah and Levi and helper for mom and dad.

Nathan is growing up in so many ways. He is becoming a very admirable young man and we are so blessed to have him in our family.

Happy birthday little buddy! We love you!
