Labor Day weekend fun!

Our Labor Day weekend was a busy one, but tons of fun!
On Saturday we got together with the family to "officially" celebrate his birthday with them, since Jason was out of the country and otherwise occupied getting married until... now!

We just went to the park and flew things, but it was lots of fun.

It started out a bit windy....
But we decided to fly anyways :)

Nathan was a super big helper... and even earned being Co-Pilot!

Jeremy hooked up a trainer cord so Nathan is actually flying a plane here, but Jeremy can take back the controls should he get himself in a pickle.

Hannah had fun playing planes too, but she wanted to take the "doll"- or fake pilot- out of the plane and play with it!

And Levi had his cape on, just in case any planes needed some last minute rescuing from a super baby!

Jason didn't have a trainer cord for his remote, so Rasy's instruction consisted of, "just keep the plane in the air and I'll land it." :)

And some "hands-on" instruction that is obviously necessary... he he.

However, there was..... an incident. The plane encountered a very tall tree and required a little search and rescue mission.

Rasy was the first to attempt the rescue... but after getting about a quarter of the way up the tall tree she concluded that the branches were not strong enough to support a climber and came back down.

Then Jason decided, poppycock! I can get my plane back! So up he went, and about half way up the tree came to the same conclusion.

At which point Jeremy joined him and decided that this tree was plenty sturdy and he would rescue the plane!

Here you get an idea of how tall this tree was, and if you look closely you can see Jeremy in it! He went up a little bit more into the thick branches about 6 feet about where he is here and did indeed rescue the plane.

However, upon his decent he came to the same conclusion Rasy did from the start... the branches were breaking under him- BIG branches. When one that was about 3 inches in diameter broke off, he panicked and got down as quickly as possible.

And was quite relieved to be on the ground once he reached it!

With it being so windy, we put the planes away and decided to try kites!

Sadly, no sooner than we got them assembled and into the air, the wind died down again :) Just our luck, eh?
But we did get it up for a few minutes!

Over all, it was a lovely day to be outside and we all enjoyed spending it with our family.

We came back to the house for a cheese and chocolate fondue dinner, which was AMAZING!
We did both a jalapeno cheddar and a spinach artichoke cheese dip with all kinds of dippers for dinner.

For the chocolate we did a dark chocolate mint and a milk chocolate hazelnut.... yummy!
This time we got smart enough to put the chocolate on the rotating platter too, so we could all get either one at any point.

After dinner we played ticket to ride on the back porch and finished just after dark.
A perfect day for hubby :)
Happy birthday, from all of us this time!

Then on Monday, Rasy and Jason hosted a holiday BBQ and pool party at their place.

Levi was happy to entertain :)

Nathan and Hannah couldn't wait to get in the water!

While mom and dad were distracted... Levi got to eat a sticky marshmallow!

The pool was SUPER cold, but once we all got in and started playing it was quite pleasant.

The kids were the first to defect to the hot tub!

Rasy and Jason didn't need any hot tub to get all warmed up :)

Before too long it was time to eat! Hannah found herself a seat where she could not-so-patiently wait for her dinner :)

Dinner was amazing, though! Rasy did the chicken, which had some incredible marinade on it.

Plus all kinds of fruits and even a fettucine alfredo side!

After dinner we played cards until dusk in these awesome circle couch thingys by the pool- with curtains and everything to block the sun and wind as needed!

And at dusk we moved to the fire pit where we roasted our dessert :)

It was a great weekend, and we enjoyed every bit of it! Thanks to all the family for taking time to spend with all of us and making our long weekend extra special!
