Blue and Gold Raingutter Regatta

So, with Jeremy being the Cub Master and me being the Cub Committee Chair we get to be a big part of Nathan's Cub Scout experience.
My first month I had to spend getting recharter taken care of, but month 2 on the job I got to plan a great bash! I guess last fall they ran out of time for the Rain gutter Regatta so they planned to combine it with the Blue and Gold Banquet. Given the the turn-over in LDS troops that became my department to pull between the planning and execution stages of last fall and this February.

This actually was a blessing because after re-charter I was thinking simple is better... and boat is a theme I already have (as well as lots of Gold left from Jamie's wedding reception!)

We ordered pizza and added some cute sides and cupcakes for the "banquet"- but who doesn't love pizza!?

The sides consisted of "fish 'n chips"

fruit boats, and a boring veggie tray that is not pictured.

We stick sails in the cupcakes to make a fleet :)

And we handed out these treasure chests to the den leaders as a thank you for all their hard work.
The tags read:
Our cub scouts would be sunken
And our pack would be a wreck
If it weren't for you:
Our greatest treasure

Here's my handsome cub scout! He is getting so old I can hardly believe my eyes anymore!

The boys checked their boats in at the boat harbor and gave them a name (for voting purposes)

Jeremy also invented an add-on to the traditional races, which he called the Renegade Regatta!
The boys were allowed to develop (for racing after the conclusion of the Rain gutter Regatta) boats made of anything that would fit in the rain gutter and could use any propulsion system that did not contradict church rules)

Here's Nathan with 2 of his renegade entries, and yes- one has 2 quad copters on it. And, believe it or not that really was his own idea!

What a fine looking harbor!

First, the traditional lung-powered races!

We had 4 rain gutters so a double elimination heat system allowed the boys to compete multiple times with their boats.

Things were pretty intense, but very exciting!

There were lots of cheerleaders!

The results are in: Kai won!

Jeremy handed out awards to each of the boys for the completion of their boats and races.

They all felt like top notch sailors!

Hannah found a friend to raid the chip bowl with all night.

Let the Renegade Regatta begin!!!
Out came the shop vacs,

Quad copter enhanced RC boats,

leaf blowers,

balloon powered boats, you name it!

It was fun to see the dads and sons get so excited about their creative combos.

And yet... the lung power held in there for a long time!

However, there was no contest- Nathan crushed it with his RC version!

Look at this proud papa and his little Wolf scout!

It was a great night and all the boys and families had a fantastic time.
It is so fun to see Nathan growing up and being a cub scout!
