Our early birthday present (Jeremy and I) from Ken and Cathy, was a trip to the Candlelight Dinner Theater. It was their summer, family show, and kids were free so we took the 2 older ones and found a sitter for Levi.
They decided they wanted to wear their Halloween costumes from last year and go as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell :) Everyone who saw them thought they were the cutest EVER.. and I have to agree!
Hannah treated the outing like a tea party.. drank her water out of the cup intended for after-dinner coffee and everything!
Nathan was most excited about getting to order his own dinner off of the kid's menu :)
So grown up for the leader of the "lost boys"!
The kids LOVED the show, and it was super kiddo friendly. They got to boo loudly for Captain Hook each time he took the stage, and clap for Tink when she wasn't doing so well and make her well again!
When Hook passed by our table during intermission/dessert, Hannah stood up on her chair and shouted the cutest, tiny girly "booo"... he couldn't help but smile, but quickly turned and threatened the fairy he'd get her yet!
After the show we got the chance to meet and take pictures with the cast. Nathan wouldn't go anywhere near Hook! He didn't even want to walk in front of him to get to everyone else.... until he say Tiger Lily :) Such a boy! Giving Hook at least a 12 foot radius, he made his way over to the Indian princess for a photo.
Hannah, on the other hand, walked right up and sat in his lap. She wanted to talk to him and touch his mustache... but when I told her to just turn and smile for a pic she felt shafted!
This is what we got :)
Nathan still does not realize that Peter Pan was played by a girl, but you can totally tell in the pics!
She was super great with the kids, though.
My favorite picture from the evening:
You can tell that by the end of the night the kids were tired and ready for bed. They both fell asleep on the drive home, but were all a-chatter the next morning about their adventures at the dinner theater.
My favorite story from the evening:
During the play the lost boys along with the indians and the Darling children went marching around the dinner theater before heading back up on stage from a front access staircase that happened to be right by our table. Hannah could not be contained! She jumped out of her chair and announced to me that she was going up there with the other kids!
She wanted sooooo badly to get up on that stage. I explained to her that they all had practiced what they were doing, and that the people in seats were supposed to just watch. She didn't forget it, though, and asked Peter Pan and Wendy after the show if she could go too, next time. They of course told her yes, and she still talks about how "next time" she is going up on the stage!
(Fairly similar to an event not too long ago in church:
It was a missionary farewell meeting and his little sister sang "I hope they call me on a mission" for a musical number during the meeting. She was probably about 9 years old, and did a great job. Hannah was fixated on her the whole song- stood up to get a better look and everything. When the song was done and silence remained in that space it takes for the singer to sit down and the speaker to get up... Hannah announces quite loudly, "I want to go up there and sing a song!" I tried to explain to her in hushed tones that she couldn't. She was devastated. I told her that she could, but that she had to sign up and practice first. I showed her the program with the girl's name and song choice and told her she can't just go up and sing without signing up. She still holds that she wants to sign up, so I am looking into it!)
Our kids are anything but shy when it comes to being in the spotlight! Hannah will get her turn soon enough to be on stage though! More to come about her starting a ballet class that will have 2 recitals!
