Independence Day Festivities

Our Independence Day this year was a 2-day celebration :)
I has been a few years since we have really seen a good fireworks show, so we decided to drive up to Broomfield. That being the plan for the 4th, we knew it would be too late to do our own fireworks that night as we would be getting home well after bedtime. So, we did our family fireworks on the 3rd. Because we have had so little rain this year there was a ban on any kind of fireworks at all in most cities in Colorado... however, we managed to find an unincorporated area of Castle Rock where there was no ban in place!
Jeremy scouted out a great place, too. There is a new housing develpoment under way that only has the streets paved but they are still surrounded by nothing but dirt that has been dug up and flattened into lots! Perfect for our purposes :)

Dallin was pretty apprehensive at first, and was only calm if being held by either myself or Jeremy!

Kayla was only calm if she had a bottle :)

We had a great time lighting off a trunk full of ground explosives! Some were oldies but goodies, the tried and true... we also picked some new ones this year that were fantastic!
Now we are all set for the big show!

Dad did his traditional early pilgrimage up to Broomfield to save us the absolute best seats for the show, and they did not disappoint!

The rest of us got up there are settled closer to the dinner hour, found some pizza and chilled out with a football and some blankets.
Jason also brought pop rocks for the babies to try :)

Sorry for the lack of pictures... it was a busy afternoon and we spent our efforts wrangling children and making sure they didn't wander off and get lost (after all, on the other side of the field there were bounce houses, pony rides, face painting, and countless food vendors!)

The show was the best I've ever seen, and our seats were phenomenal. The experience was just what we were looking for!

The next day we decided to stay at home and take it easy. The little boys wanted to stay cool in the wading pool in the front yard :)

Good summer times! So far, it's been a good summer!
